Bharti Airtel to enter IPTV market
August 21, 2007 – Indian telco Bharti Airtel is to enter the IPTV and direct-to-home (DTH) markets in the country, further expanding its services portfolio.
The company’s IPTV services will initially be limited to six cities, and Bharti Airtel has tied up with Cisco to deliver its IPTV offering, which is expected to be launched in December 2007.
India’s multichannel video industry is expected to see its turnover reach $7.2bn in 2010 and $10.5bn by 2015, and various major companies are reported to be considering pursuing a slice of the market. Bharti Airtel plans to offer its DTH service as a mass market offering from January to March 2008. The company at present has over 40mn subscribers and is seen as one of the world’s fastest-growing telcos
